An Inconvenient Truth... Responces

let me write what's been rolling through my mind about it first... I'm going to write harshly and off the cuff... but that keeps you comin' back for more doesn't it?

Big Ear Creations said...

In No way should the environment be THE issue for The Church. I think it would be a gross misuse of the church's time.

I think that there are so many forces going into this issue. Spiritual, economic, social, geographic... and the shear fact that there are THIS MANY PEOPLE on the planet all of a sudden for no reason whatsoever... that we have to realize that SOMETHING is happening.

What is happening? I don't rightly know fully. But I know that God desires MANY people to be his freed, equipped, and released army.

There will need to be people to take care of those caught in the days (that are coming recycle boxes or not) where there are famines, floods, wars. I see very very little in the word of God about the environment. I see LOTS about people.

I think there will be those called to make revolutionary change... because it's an area where PEOPLE can be influenced for Christ. It's an area of influence... like feeding others... like working at an office... like cleaning up puke in a bathroom. No more... no less.

We cannot stop the world from it's destiny in my opinion. The number's are staggering... and historically, our moves to solve one problem... usually cause others. Humanity and the earth we live on is sick and putting disproportionate value on cleaning the surface leaves the cavities still festering.

An Inconvenient Truth

I just watched Al's Big Movie. I'm still processing what I think about it.

But honestly. There's really nothing to refute. It's fact.

Question is... how does the church respond?

How big of an issue is it?

What is the world's most important need?

I'm asking you... how do you process it?

April 29th PS

... I'm going to write more about this but it's a HUGE issue that everyone MUST think about. It's inescapable because the potential results and inexusable to the younger generation to not have it dealt with.

And while this film is targeted at the US as the major offender in the world (and it is...) as Trudeau said in 1969... it's like being in bed with an elephant.

John Baird (Environment Minister), David Suski, and Al Gore have had some exchanges in the last 48 hours as well. Check that story out.

Hope for the Hokies

I'm gonna tell you something Ernie. The Passion guys know how to do it.

It = Worshiping God Genuinely
It = Effectively stirring others into spiritual action
It = Understanding the communication tools of their people
It = Doing it all honestly without arrogance and pretension

Check out their site
where you can download a few of their songs for free about hope, redemption, possibility, and rebirth.

Because not all the spiritual gifts in the world
Because not all the healing services in the world
Because not all the powerful preaching in the world

... can match the simple gift of salvation and redemption that Christ gave...

for all

Penis Fish

Can the candirú fish swim upstream into your urethra?

A question I'm sure we've all asked ourselves. The answer is yes...

I had the misfortune of having to sit through an episode of Grey's Anatomy last night....

***Note. Grey's Anatomy is one to the stupidest, cliche packed, over dramatized, forced comedic (or non-comedic), piles of horse manure on television today. Shows like this are the reason that I barely watch TV. Go LOST!***

I digress.
Part of the show had a man with a Penis Fish. The Penis Fish went on to become a metaphor for someone (or something) that is in your head (spirit) and isn't welcome there.
Something that got in there without an invitation, but creates HORRIBLE problems once it's in.
Something that you can't get out without intention.

Love that.

So henceforth, if we're chatting about life, and I say... "That thought... that's a penis fish". You'll need to remember that this object... hurts when it's in the urethra..

Why do Baptists have all the cool Blog's?

As far as unique, thought provoking, creative Blogs go...

Baptists clean up, (likely none that I've ever met). But like the Passion kinda Baptist peeps. The tricked out Baptist Bloggers.

Emergent Churches are right there in the mix too. But that's what they do. They're modern hipster holdovers. When the living room is the "meeting place" (that's the hippy term isn't it?) you've got branch out into the wireless coffee shops don't ya?

There are some cool Catholic Blogs. Pius... but cool.

If you're looking for Blogs written by church disillusioned, fragmented from society, vague remembrance of God, social misfit, round about religious, sarcastic about the church Blogs... well as Desmond says,

" brother you ain't gonna have much of an problem finding on of those."

But I'm here send out the call for the Holy Ghost a breathin', annointin' oil a pourin', revival fire a callin', prophetic vision a seein', independent church a startin', mainstream church a splitin' people... you know. People like me.

Come on you Revival Monkeys!

Get out into the Bloggersphere. Make YOUR wild unsubstantiated comments. Show us pictures of YOUR cat playing with a ball of yarn and how it relates to the book of Philippians. Then GO into all the Blogger world and make disciples of those writing about heathenish items like software, quilting, and recipes.... GO I SPEAK TO YOU!

Am I even making a point?

Oh good... well then it's all been worth it.

Ragamuffin Soul

A blog that I've found quite thought provoking is Ragamuffin Soul... Written by Carlos, The Worship and Arts Pastor at Sandals Church in Riverside California.

I like how he uses the Blog to more or less, expose the thought process of life, ministry and worship to those he pastors both in person and spurs online. It demystifies the process of pastoral function while pointing to the Holy of Holies. Very cool...

Check it out.

Cool Cranberries

Always been a fan of the Cranberries. Read a story this morning that they might get back together and it excited me... not that they'd likely get much radio play at this point... um... not that I even listen to the radio. So if they do, someone let me know OK

Love the feeling and mood of this song. Very creative. More musicians should take note. It's about a feeling.

Mornin' ... again

I'm pretty sure sleep doesn't exist with 3 kids. I know that as the partner in the home that doesn't product milk from his breasts, I'm not allowed to complain but one day... I think I'd like either

a) a nap
b) to sleep until there is sun

But I doubt that will happen again.

Bought this amazing Paul Baloche CD yesterday to put on the Ipod. This is what the song "Your Name" says about the morning.

"As morning dawns and evening fades
You inspire songs of praise
That rise from earth to touch Your heart and glorify Your Name"

It's my responsibility to let my spirit be in the position to be inspired... and wooed.
Every morning.

Regardless of sleep,
irrespective of circumstance,
even in the presence of our enemies,
because every evening... He always proves Himself worthy of our morning praise.

Job 36:16 "He is wooing you from the jaws of distress
to a spacious place free from restriction,
to the comfort of your table laden with choice food.

So guess what? Today is my 1st Blogging Anniversary. Oh the memories we've had. I'm honestly still not totally sure if what I've done is

a) interesting
b) purposeful
c) Humorous
d) or just a complete waste of time

But whatever it is... it's been happening for a year. So let's look back a year at my first blog post, birthed out of the boredom that inevitably sets in on a spring Smooth Jazz afternoon.

Blog This!

Dave learns to Blog... tonight on Fox. My first question... why can you use the font Webdings (webdings) and not comic font. Are there many webdings writers out there? Honestly... how is one supposed to write without COMIC? So instead I'm using something called "Trebuchet" which loosely translated is French for "that'll do donkey" Wow... now that's font.

To get a few little items out of the way, I have to put a few words in the Blog that will let weird strangers find me if they're searching Blogs. Here we go.

Freedom House
Niagara College
Flying Monkey Livers
Dave Carrol
Ernest goes to anything

Whew! Glad I got that out of the way. My lovely wife informed me that I was only allowed to be a nerd and have a Blog if I did it at work. So if my boss comes in, I'll have to fabricate some Smooth Jazz nonsense. For those of you who don't know... I write commercials for www.wave947.fm Very intense work. It's like being stranded in an elevator 24 hours a day while Kenny G is on "a roll".

That's it for now. Look at me... I'm a Blogger!

Minor Plot Flaws

Automatic right wing assumptions of North American Christians leave many as political and social drones. I list myself as "Conservative", and it's true that they are party I most support in Canada. I voted Harper. I like Harper. I support most of what he does. But the word MOST is the kicker.

God doesn't care much for "mosts". He doesn't say, give me "most of you". He didn't give us "most" of His son to die. He doesn't ask you to love one another on "most" occasions. He's and "all or nothing" kinda dude.

He asks us to be hot or cold. In between... we find ourselves in the "cast you out" place.
***NOTE*** Not a good place to be.

So just because there are more Christians who are Conservatives or Republicans, doesn't inherently make it Godlier. I saw this the other day and laughed...

I have grown to truly dislike the Iraq war and would be outraged if I were a conservative Christian Republican voter (and if I was an American... I likely would be by default sadly)

Following the Pied Piper, we turn our spiritual discerner's off without even processing the heart of God on matters. There is no correct political party because they are run by the consensus of men, instead of the leading of God. And let me say this. I, principally, support our leaders. It's RIGHT and BIBLICAL to build up our leaders... not tear them down because God allows certain men to rule for His purposes.

I vote Conservative... but hate the word because God is Liberal with His Spirit, His forgiveness...etc

I believe some war is allowable... but motives are not always pure

Because I believe in smaller government and fiscally enabling organizations like churches to take care of the hurt and needy instead of governmentally inept programs... does not mean that I'm a uncaring right wing ogre. Ya know?

It's a problem... because one party is NEVER right all the time. It's not an ALL OR NOTHING system, so it's not going to ever be perfect. So get involved, pay attention, get the spirit of wisdom and revelation... turn your ear to heaven and hear what the "mind of christ" has to say.

You... shake your junk

I've imagined this scenario many times. I want it.

I've always thought that doing obscure things in public is a wonderful way to spend a day.

I once walked into a convenience store with a Mike Krukow baseball card stuck to my forehead, poured myself a slushy, then dumped in on the counter in front of the attendant... and walked out.

For a 2 week period, I called a local donut shop daily and cryptically in a Yoda like voice would simply say "Cookie... One... I'll pick it up... Saturday". Then hung up.

I once walked into a grocery store... got some milk and a box of cereal... sat on the floor... and ate them together... in blessed unity.

While going up on escalators, I'll alway say things like "and then the elephant and I began to ballroom dance. It was beautiful because it was so spontaneous" loudly enough so those going down have to turn and look.

Thy Kingdom Come...

When I became a Christian, I had no idea what I was getting into honestly. I tasted and saw that Lord is good. It was settled in my spirit. Done and Done.

But that point on... Christendom is a fast, funny, hairy, scary romp in the supernatural and super stupid.

This is a scene out of Acts 15 with Paul (Porn Moustache) and Barnabas called "The Great Penis Debate" (Something we've all had... come on Holy Hal...). It's on my new favorite website called "The Brick Testament". It's the Bible... done in Lego. It's awesome, and funny. Like me.

Note***Expect these in my sermon power points very shortly***

Here's a little nugget of sickness about a county in Tennessee that is building a giant "Bible Park USA", costing upwards of 300 million dollars. You get to eat Middle Eastern Food. You get to ride the 25ft high Red Sea waves. You can watch movies (likely the Lalonde Brothers) at the "two-by-two Theater Experience (perfect for making out). Their tag line is “The Bible — the Greatest Adventure.” Saddle up your horses Steven... we've got a trail to blaze. Hope Jesus doesn't show up.

On the funky side of town. The David Crowder Band has a new album called "Remedy" coming out, and over at their super-cool blog, you can actually see live streaming of them recording it.
And you can keep tabs on just how high David's hair gets.

Apparently, on Sunday the Crystal Cathedral, Evel Knievel... yeah the same motorcycle jumpin', arthritis medication pimpin', psychopath from pop culture lore... gave his testimony. Check the whole story out... it's AMAZING actually.

He says that one night... God woke him up and all of a sudden he believed in Jesus. He shouted out...

'Devil, Devil, you bastard you, get away from me. I cast you out of my life.' … I just got on my knees and prayed that God would put his arms around me and never, ever, ever let me go."
At that point... Dr. Schular Jr... walked to the front of the church and asked the church to repent and be baptized. Between 500 and 800 people got saved and or baptized ON THE STINKIN'SPOT. AT THE CRYSTAL CATHEDRAL!!!!!

Just so you realize. God is not a respecter of people, churches, degrees, denominations or... well... really anything. He's searching the earth for HUNGRY PEOPLE who are willing to live life for Him... not for themselves. When he finds them, He'll pour out His spirit on ALL flesh. And it will look much different than you thought it would. If you're willing... you're next.

Fix you by Cold Play

I love this song by Cold Play. Friend of mine just got back from a photographic trip to Africa and this was the song that God burned into her heart on the long drive home from New York City upon her return.

Check her out some of her work over at The Bean Bag Chair

Manifestations and Orgasms

Spiritual Manifestations by themselves are physically meaningless. Think about intercession. It’s not the act of moaning, groaning and shaking that allows God the right to move into earthly situations. That’s just what it looks like sometimes when Christ goes to the Father on our behalf to change things. Because it's the natural colliding with the Holy.

But if we attempt to control the physical results of a spiritual situation, we severely limit the potential moment.

Manifestations are like orgasms. You can have meaningless sex and still seemingly achieve the desire goal of marital intimacy, but “The Big O” only happens when you sell yourself out to your lover and abandon inhibitions. The desired results of sex happen when we don’t focus on the “physical manifestations of sex”, and instead give our selves over to the moment. The rest just happens... and it sure is good. Even better when it's spontaneous instead of scripted.

The same is true for those who fake ‘em. The outward appearance appears to be the desired result, but you have robbed your partner of the satisfaction of the intimacy of surrender, instead opting for control and manipulation of a Holy situation.

The same is true with spiritual “manifestation”… it is a result of our humanly bodies getting closer into the holy of holies and abandoning self. You don’t know what it’s going to look like, sound like, feel like…. Because we are entering into a place of surrender with a creative, powerful God. What your body does is not about you. If you decide one way or another that you will not do something… or that you do not believe in something, you'll never stay in a dull, routine place. In the shallow end of the pool...at the expense of Holy Ghost intimacy.

“In the presence of a Holy God, who can stand?”

Manifestations are mere man’s honest reaction to a beautiful collision with a Holy God.

Walking on the unseen

I go back to work tomorrow morning after a week off with growing family of 5. A few minutes ago, Krissy and I just stopped and thanked God for how He's blessed us. And He HAS Blessed our family. It can all be traced back to one place.

This day in the picture on the right was our second last day in Ghana a few years ago now. It was our "Missionary Commissioning" ceremony as we were "sent" back to Canada to live life to the fullest.

This day I made a vow to God. I haven't made many real honest-to-goodness, full-out "vows" in my life, because there is no going back on a vow. A vow is a done deal.

This is the deal I made with God on this day...

"God, if you'll promise to always take care of my family, I want you to give me a life that challenges other's view of how big you are."

I've learned a few things about living a cutting edge life. Earth shakers don't react to situations. They understand the times and move before inevitability sets in.

This practice usually leaves one looking like they're standing alone in mid air much of the time.

It's Coyote theology. As long as the Coyote was focussed on chasing the Road Runner, he could run a straight line off a cliff. As soon as he looked around and thought, "hmmm, I shouldn't be able to do this....", he plummeted in a puff of desert dust.

In my world, it's about hearing the voice of God and doing what He says. It's not a figurative metaphor for something else. It's quite literally stepping out of the strong current of daily life, listening to a living God speak (because he knows best how to set us up for future success), and walking off the cliff into the unseen as if it were already there.

The first part of my vow involved asking God to fulfill something He already promised in Luke 12...

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Don't set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. Your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well."

Good deal. The second part, involves trusting God enough to do astounding things through faith. A number of years ago, I defined what I felt we should strive to be in life...

"We need to be truth-seekers, willing to walk by faith, expecting great things to come out of obedience"
Do you know what the first thing most people say when I tell them that we just had a 3rd child is? "Wow, how can you afford that?". I cannot begin to tell you how distasteful, selfish and impotently-short sighted that is. It actually make me very sad for many people.

Having 3 kids at the age of 30 wouldn't have necessarily been in my "How to take over the world" game plan. But my destiny involves making God's name ENORMOUS, and it's HIS master plan that I get to play a small, yet significant role in. Having my amazing children has been a part of walking on the unseen.

It's put us in a place of NEEDING to allow God to fulfill His plan His way, because it's a LOONGGG drop down if we choose to take that peek. The result is a perfectly fitted puzzle, pieced together by the designer instead of life of worry and second-bests.

Holy Shrapnel and Good Gifts

Ephesians 1...

"Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son."

In World War II, my Grandfather had to leave the battle after an explosion left a big ole hunk of metal shrapnel lodged in his shoulder. It was the side effect of an explosion.

When we align ourselves with the God who gives GOOD GIFTS, and his perfect plan for our lives... there is some serious hope shrapnel... kindness shrapnel... love shrapnel... compassion shrapnel... that begins to fly.

"He thought of everything, provided for everything we could possibly need, letting us in on the plans he took such delight in making. He set it all out before us in Christ, a long-range plan in which everything would be brought together and summed up in him, everything in deepest heaven, everything on planet earth."

Think about it. When you're acting IN LINE with the designer's plans... other's will be free to do likewise. If one part of an architect's design didn't function in it's designed purpose, the other parts of a structure would be handicapped in their ability to do likewise... leaving the structure unsound

"God raised him from death and set him on a throne in deep heaven, in charge of running the universe, everything from galaxies to governments, no name and no power exempt from his rule. And not just for the time being, but forever. He is in charge of it all, has the final word on everything. At the center of all this, Christ rules the church. The church, you see, is not peripheral to the world; the world is peripheral to the church. The church is Christ's body, in which he speaks and acts, by which he fills everything with his presence."

From our view inside the church (let alone from the outside)... that's an easy statement to "pft!" But it IS the spiritual structure of the world we see and the spirit realm we don't. God gave us the choice to choose life and allow his Kingdom to function as it was intended... or to ignore it and be left watching the news at night saying... "tisk tisk, this sick world."

Tomorrow, we go into the hospital and my wife gets induced to have our 3rd baby.

I "Google imaged" the phrase...

I'm not sure you'd want to see what I found.

So this picture will have to do. It's pretty much how it all goes down anyway, from what I remember.
