Doctrine don't hug a brotha

Yet without doctrine, and sound Biblical teaching, we are... tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.

Sound doctrine (spoken in love) is how we come to unity (Eph 4:11-16) - through a common understanding and obedience to God's Word. Plus, if we truly love we will warn our brothers about false doctrine (Acts 20:29-31) and be able to correct them (doctrinally) with great care and patience (2 Tim. 4:2) - which comes through sound Biblical teaching.

Even John, the Apostle of Love, encouraged us to "love in the truth" (2 John 1-4) - walking in obedience to his commands (which we come to understand through doctrine).

Biblical love never minimizes the importance of Bible doctrine. If we truly love a person then we will desire that person come to a total understanding of the truth of God's Word.

So hug on, brothers and sisters! Both physically AND doctrinally!

Here is an area I think we all get confused on. Doctrine is not a bad thing. It should lift our souls heavenward and bring peace, community and justice.

Sadly we handle teaching wrong. We are more interested in using it as away to divide than pull us into the presence of Christ.
