I like em all

Remember this old joke?

The heretic

I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man standing on the edge, about to jump off. So I ran over and said, "Stop! Don't do it!" "Why shouldn't I?" he said. I said, "Well, there's so much to live for!" He said, "Like what?" I said, "Well, are you religious or atheist?" He said, "Religious." I said, "Me too! Are your Christian or Buddhist?" He said, "Christian." I said, "Me too!

Are you Catholic or Protestant?" He said, "Protestant." I said, Me too! Are your Episcopalian or Baptist? He said, "Baptist!" I said, "Wow! Me too! Are your Baptist Church of God or Baptist Church of the Lord? He said, Baptist Church of God!" I said, "Me too! Are your Original Baptist Church of God or are you Reformed Baptist Church of God?" He said, "Reformed Baptist Church of God!" I said, "Me too! Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915?" He said, "Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915!"

I said, "Die, heretic scum!" and pushed him off.

Our world is filled with fascinating people. The last couple of days I've hung out with Punk Monks, Salvation Army Jokers, Holy Ghosties, Shakers and Bakers, Vision casters, Mary's, Martha's, Indies, Lifers... and everything in between. Truth is that we're all various concoctions of all of them. And I love them all. More and more I love them all.

A while back, I decided that I wanted to be intentional about not being a slave to any certain church's culture beast. And we all have one that lurks over our shoulder, telling us that there IS a way things ARE TO BE DONE. And truthfully... church's kinda need it. At Freedom House, from the beginning, we were intentional about creating the culture of our house. BUT...

I want to be able to hang with, and be able to function in any stream. Really. I want to be able to give or take anything that's interchangeable (which is nearly everything but Jesus). It only happens by making ourselves slaves to our call and putting other's before us. It takes being intentional. And it unveils such a colorful tapestry to our eyes when we do it.

And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God
Psalm 64: 9

I buy this. I don't want to be a "there's sucker born any minute" pie in the sky guy... but the source is trustworthy. We can come together and let our streams flow as one river... ALL men SHALL see and fear and put their trust in our Lord. So we'd better change, because I'm ready to experience the good stuff.

I like 'em all.
